Everyone at Imagine Fantastic Film Festival is mad about genre (right?). For our new interview series Faces of Imagine, our special guests, crew members and volunteers tell us all about the fantastic fiction they love.
First up: director and screen writer Tallulah H. Schwab, the mysterious mastermind behind Imagine’s 2024 opening film Mr. K.
Hi Tallulah! Why do you love fantastic film?
‘I love all film, but I love fantastic films because they can show you things beyond what you can understand. And they’re often very visual.’
Why did you become a genre filmmaker?
‘I became a filmmaker because I love stories, and I love to see them in picture-form. My father was crazy about film so I ate film for breakfast when I was little. That was the beginning.’
Which filmmaker would you like to be stuck in a hotel room with?
‘I would like to be stuck with David Cronenberg, because I’d like to know where he gets his ideas from.’
What’s your favourite genre?
‘I love visual films. I love David Lynch, David Cronenberg, Julia Ducourneau…’
What’s your favourite scary movie?
‘The scariest film I ever saw is Cannibal Holocaust. Afterwards, you’re grey in the face and you want to throw up, haha.’
What is your favourite horror character?
‘At the moment it’s Justine from Raw. She eats fingers and seems to enjoy it.’
In which fantasy world would you like to live?
‘I would like to live in a world where people can fly.’
What other films are you going to watch at Imagine this year?
‘Animale, the way it portrays personal change seems very interesting.’
