Everyone at Imagine Fantastic Film Festival is mad about genre (right?). For our new interview series Faces of Imagine, our special guests, crew members and volunteers tell us all about the fantastic fiction they love.
This time: volunteer Ian, who has been volunteering at Imagine for 17 years!
Hi Ian! How long have you been coming to Imagine?
‘I’ve been working at Imagine as a volunteer for 17 years. I may have missed a few year in between. But I was also at the second edition of this festival when it was still The Weekend of Terror.’
What do you like most about volunteering at Imagine?
‘At the info desk I like that I know what’s going on, and I like hooking people up. You know, so-and-so’s looking for so-and-so. And in my free time I try to watch as many movies as possible.’
What’s your favourite Imagine memory?
‘Seeing Ray Harryhausen speaking to a packed hall of nerds about his whole career [in 2005, red.]. You could hear a pin drop. True story.’
Why do you love fantastic films?
‘I love fantastic films because they can go every which way, and I like when I don’t have to read all the damn books.’
What’s your favourite genre?
‘Probably time travel. Because… time travel.’
What’s your favourite scary movie?
‘Still the original Night of the Living Dead, because I watched it on tv when I was ten, and it made such a big impression.’
Who’s your favourite movie character?
‘Pee-wee Herman, because he’s better than real life.’
In which fantasy world would you like to live?
‘I would also like to live in the fantasy world of Peewee Herman, haha. Which isn’t really Imagine, but it is imaginary, isn’t it?’
