Known for his gritty, fantastical universes and low-budget ingenuity, Albert Pyun left a lasting imprint on the genre scene. Often dubbed ‘the Post-Apocalyptic Ed Wood’, Pyun’s work was misunderstood by critics but cherished by an ever-growing fan base of cult film enthusiasts. Through iconic films like CyborgNemesis, and The Sword and the Sorcerer, Pyun captivated audiences with his bold visions, resourceful filmmaking techniques and sheer determination to make movies on his own terms.

Directed by Lisa D’Apolito, this intimate documentary follows Pyun’s late-career struggle after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and dementia. Against the odds, he embarks on his final creative journey to complete Cyborg Overture – Bad Ass Angels and Demons. Featuring rare footage, scenes from over fifty films and candid interviews with collaborators, including Jean-Claude Van Damme, Christopher Lambert and Ice-T, Albert Pyun: King of Cult Movies is a moving tribute to a filmmaker who never gave up on his dreams.  


Paired with Pyun’s Dollman (1991) during a Straight to Video double bill, this documentary reveals the unwavering spirit of a director whose vision continues to inspire new generations of fans.
