Terror is a place for a young woman who returns to her small hometown.

Baal follows Grace, a young woman who reluctantly returns to her crumbling, small hometown only to discover that her brother has gone missing. Riddled with guilt, Grace sets out on a journey to find him, leading her into the heart of the dark wilderness surrounding the town.

Australian director Joseph Sims-Dennett brilliantly subverts horror tropes in Baal, which is as much an exploration of the dynamics of dying industrial communities as it is about trying to escape our past. Focusing on Grace, who got away before her birth town could claim her, we discover that underneath the decaying layer of industry lies something more ancient, more sinister and much more primal, serving to remind us that human progress can only hold off true darkness for so long. Coupled with striking cinematography and killer sound design, Baal will slowly drip real terror into any daring audience.
