A scavenger roams a pop cultural wasteland in the Ethiopian desert and bumps into Santa, witches and Nazi knights.

In post-apocalyptic Ethiopia, a scavenger named Candy embarks on a surreal quest to reach a reactivated spaceship in the desert. Along the way, he encounters witches, Santa Claus, and Nazi knights, collecting pop culture relics as he navigates this bizarre landscape in the hopes of reuniting with his beloved.

Crumbs is a uniquely imaginative and visually stunning film that transports viewers to a post-apocalyptic Ethiopia rarely seen on screen. Embracing elements of Afrofuturism, Crumbs’ surreal narrative blends science fiction with romance and adventure. The film stands out for its inventive use of pop culture artifacts — from Michael Jackson records to Ninja Turtle toys — as sacred relics in a civilization in decline. Director Miguel Llansó, whose new film Infinite Summer is also playing at Imagine 2024 and who is coming to the festival, creates a bizarre and captivating universe filled with eccentric characters. With its lo-fi charm, striking landscapes and whimsical storytelling, Crumbs offers an original, entertaining and deep cinematic experience.
