An overwhelming fever dream about a strange new virus that leaves the world altered beyond recognition.

When nervous Anx and extraverted Cass decide to stay in the same apartment after an unexpected lockdown, a one-night stand starts evolving into a serious relationship. But the mysterious, contagious virus has more sinister things in store for them.

French director (and former philosopher) Thibault Emin makes his ambitious feature debut with Else, adapted from his own short film. What starts out as an idiosyncratic love story soon flips into gory body horror. The virus in the film first leads to lockdowns and Big Brother-style surveillance (perhaps reminding some viewers of our own recent pandemic), then to a Lovecraftian drama. Else is a demented fever dream which finds fear in the grandiose, the transcendental and the sublime. With visceral, sticky and icky special effects, Emin brings us a unique mix of philosophical ideas and disgusting gore. You’ve never seen an end of the world quite like this!
