After a forced abortion, a woman becomes possessed by a Djinn.
Gonca is carrying Erdem’s child but has an abortion because they’re not married. Once they're wed, though, they struggle to conceive. Searching for a solution, they discover that Gonca is possessed by a Djinn. And then she gets pregnant again.
The incredibly popular subgenre of Turkish djinn horror often comes in the form of series: Alper Mestçi’s Siccin 1-7 and Üç Harfliler 1-6, Hasan Karacadağ’s Dabbe 1-7 and Utku Uçar’s Hüddam series, in which Hüddam 4: Ahmer is the most recent entry. The Hüddam series stands out for its near complete absence of special effects. Uçar uses the familiar tropes of Djinn horror – doppelgängers, nightmares, black magic, possession, incantation, an Islamic environment – but concentrates more on atmosphere than on visual effects and jump scares.

Mezrab Storytellers on Djinn - Can Bora (Turkey)
Five of our Djinn shows will be accompanied by a Djinn story told by a Mezrab, House of Stories storyteller. The Friday 1 November screening of Hüddam 4: Ahmer will be introduced by Can Bora. Can is a Turkish queer multimedia artist-researcher and somatic instructor specializing in theatre, dance, performance art, and performance-based filmmaking. Can’s artistic practice centers on the somatic body as a vessel for challenging and re-examining societal systems, structures, and cultural codes. He has performed and exhibited at Podium Mozaiek, OT 301, CC Amstel, the Flemish Cultural Center De Brakke Grond, and Grey Space in Amsterdam.
Can's story will be connected to the four other Djinn stories told at Imagine for a special programme at Mezrab in Amsterdam titled Mythos: Djinn Stories. This event will take place on Tuesday 29 October from 20.00 till 22.30.
