An old house turns against its new residents in this claustrophobic horror film from the first Weekend of Terror.

Desperately looking for their own place, composer Petur and his wife Borg move into a house that’s been empty for years. As their marital tensions rise, the house seems to turn against its new residents. And why are the neighbours acting so oddly?

In The House, director Egill Edvardsson creates a universe reminiscent of the claustrophobic films of Roman Polanski, specifically Repulsion and Rosemary’s Baby. The sounds Borg hears in the old house, her nightmares and hallucinations, an old woman wandering around the house and the suspicion that Petur is sleeping with a student all contribute to an escalating sense of distrust and paranoia. Along the way, the audience will start to grasp where Borg’s dark premonitions are coming from.

The House was screened during one of the first Weekends of Terror and will be shown again at Imagine’s 40th edition. Former Imagine director Jan Doense will give an introduction. Don’t miss out!
