In this highly relevant Spanish thriller, a respected judge is forced to deal with Artificial Intelligence taking over the legal system.
To take some weight off the courts, the Spanish government decides to leave legal judgement to Artificial Intelligence, taking human interference out of the equation entirely. Respected judge Carmen Costa is called upon to implement the plan. But when the CEO of the AI company dies in an accident, things derail.
Artificial Justice is set in the very near future, in a world with only slightly more technological possibilities than ours. This gives the film its urgency; the debates about AI in the film are eerily similar to our current reality, and the burden upon the legal system feels close to home too, Carmen Costa (Veronica Echegui) plays a pivotal role in the conflict, struggling with her loyalty to the AI company’s deceased CEO as well as her faith in a human-led justice system. Carmen’s inner turmoil carries the film, giving an urgent technological question a very human face.
