True terror lies in darkness in this tale of supernatural mayhem set in rural Ireland.

Darcy is a blind medium with genuine abilities, who runs an occult antique shop where she collects cursed and haunted items. A mysterious encounter propels her to start investigating the unsolved murder of her twin sister with the help of an otherworldly mannequin, setting her on a path to terror.

Irish director Damian McCarthy continues the promise of his debut, the exquisitely frightening Caveat (Imagine 2021), with a follow-up that’s genuinely the scariest film of the year. Told out of order, with Darcy’s discoveries slowly filling in the plot, the film’s jumbled structure helps to accentuate the supernatural terror pervading every frame. Add to the mix an truly nightmarish unholy and increasingly intense sound design, and Oddity becomes the kind of horror film you’ll force your friends to watch for Halloweens to come. An unnerving, eerie experience best enjoyed with fellow horror-heads.
