Adèle Exarchopoulos and Souheila Yavoub shine in this dystopian science fiction film fusing action with activism.
France in 2039 is a totalitarian state. Climate activist Julia is part of a guerilla movement violently resisting energy companies. Meanwhile, Iraqi refugee Nour is looking to get his residence papers. When Julia is arrested, their paths cross unexpectedly.
The dystopian version of France director Aude Léa Rapin creates in her second film Planet B – which mixes sci-fi with activism – is dark and chaotic, full of empty streets and underground hiding places. The luxurious environment of a large mansion at the sea provides a stark contrast – but this place is not what it seems. Rapin uses Virtual Reality to bring the two separate worlds of Nour and Julia together. Adèle Exarchopoulos and Souheila Yacoub give fantastic performances, bringing these worlds to life.
