About the podcast
Re:Imagining 1984, we go beyond the dystopian diagnoses of George Orwell, inviting a wide array of voices to a speculative discussion about the viable alternatives for our futures. Over the span of two prerecorded episodes and one live public podcasting session during the festival, we try to escape the binary opposition between Utopias and Dystopias by closely following the works programmed at the festival.
Episodes one and two can be found on our podcast page once published. The third, final episode – Response-abilities – follows the example of thinkers like Donna Haraway, who defines RESPONSE-ability as the ability to RESPOND to the challenges posed by ever-changing reality. We invite our guests to offer us RESPONSE-abilities derived from their works.
These three podcast episodes form a loose, ‘protopian’ hero’s journey, a path to emancipation focusing on ‘human-scale, human-centered, environmentally sustainable solutions that make our world a better place for as many people as possible’ (Kevin Kelly, New York Times, 2023).
