Human Lost

A young biker with superpowers is drawn into moral dilemmas in spectacular dystopian anime.

It’s 2036 and there is a society that’s never ill, living beyond 120 years old. But only those on the Inside benefit, while the poor on the Outside are exploited by the elite. Young biker Oba is dragged into a raid by the mysterious Masao and discovers he has superpowers. This leads to grim and trying moral dilemmas in spectacular dystopian anime.

Human Lost is a science fiction adaptation of Osamu Dazai’s classic novel Ningen Shikkaku (No Longer Human), transporting it to 2036 and turning the realistic motives of the novel into fantastic metaphors. The animation is a superb cross-over between 2D and 3D, containing amazing set pieces. The battles are truly spectacular, culminating in the grand finale in space with Oba as a Fire Demon. But beneath all the symbolism and metaphors lies a grim and trying moral dilemma for young Oba: allow the world to be ruined by the elitist system or help ruining the world altogether.
