Feature Film Drama Fantasy
Magical Peter Pan origin story doesn’t shy away from darkness, in a lyrical adaptation by the director of Beasts of the Southern Wild.
Wendy lives above a restaurant with her twin brothers James and Douglas. As a baby she sees how the young Thomas jumps on a freight train to disappear forever. Years later, she and her brothers take the same leap and she meets Peter. They arrive by ship on an island where the children never age. Magical Peter Pan origin story by the director of Beasts of the Southern Wild.
After the worldwide success of Beasts of the Southern Wild, Benth Zeitlin dedicated himself to a project he’d been wanting to make for a long time: a Peter Pan origin story. Just like in his debut film, he manages to get an enormous raw energy and vigour from a young cast of non-professional actors. Where the adventures on the island are initially cheerful and exuberant, the director enters a darker and more frightening territory in the second half. In a beautiful, moving coda, he brings all elements of the Peter Pan myth to a lyrical climax.
